If I want one, I will get one, you are just voting to make it unsafe.

This is why laws created to enforce a morality from one group upon the entire group do not work… let’s just look at the Drug War and see how well it’s doing. It costs more every day and the number of people doing drugs is not decreasing. In fact, some states are over-turning the federal governments decisions and making some legal for their citizens.

Don’t legislate your beliefs. Laws should be to protect the populace. Period.

I went to church with my family tonight and the pastor said something that I think every Christian should hear

  • Pastor: Now, according to a few passages in the bible, homosexuality is a sin.
  • Couple of older males in the audience: Amen!
  • Pastor: Now, wait, I'm not finished.
  • Pastor: You know what else the bible defines as a sin? Divorce.
  • -uncomfortable silence-
  • Pastor: There are countless passages that talk about how divorce is wrong, and that there are consequences to getting a divorce, such as the wife should be stoned.
  • Pastor: Yet, I witnessed a divorce just this morning. And I gotta tell you, it was heartbreaking, but I definitely didn't attempt to throw rocks at the wife, even though she was the one who filed for divorce.
  • Pastor: We choose to overlook the consequences of divorce because time has proven that they're inhumane and cruel.
  • Pastor: The bible doesn't say anything about the consequences of a homosexual lifestyle. Yet, we seem to be spearheading a campaign to ruin the lives of people we don't even know.
  • -the pastor shifts a few notes around-
  • Pastor: The bible states to love thy neighbor. That's it. There are no other rules or restrictions to that passage.
  • Pastor: So, we as a church family have to support equality with a smile on our face. THAT is the true Christian way.

Why do we have an abortion rate 20% higher than France’s (and more than twice as high as Germany’s), especially considering most doctors here won’t perform them? The answer is any country that has universal health care, where contraception is free, where child care is free or inexpensive, where there is less poverty because people don’t become bankrupt over medical bills — those societies are simply going to have fewer unplanned and unwanted pregnancies.

And there the mask gets pulled off the Bart Stupaks and the “Christians.” If the statistics show that countries with government-provided universal health care and nearly-free abortions are, in fact, the countries with the fewest abortions, then why on earth wouldn’t the Right be the first in line to support universal health care?

Because it isn’t about “universal health care.” It’s about controlling women, period. It’s about sticking your nose in other people’s business. It’s about pushing your religious beliefs on everyone else because voices in your head tell you your Jesus is The One — even though your Jesus never said one single solitary word in any of the four gospels of the Bible about abortion or fertilized eggs being human. You’ve just gone and made it up about “life beginning at conception.” Jesus never said that. The little voice in your head said that, the same little voice that wants your grubby paws on women’s uteruses. You need help. Please get some help and leave the rest of us alone, Mr. Stupak and friends.

The Gods of the Gaps…

Yeah, it’s kinda like that.
Religion is a separation of thinkers from non-thinkers. You don’t have to agree with me on this point, but if you ‘bleev’ then ask yourself this…
When did you start believing? And why…?
If you can open your mind for even a moment on that question… and you can recognize the lies that were given to you, by whom, and for what reason… I sincerely doubt you will continue to believe.

Facebook Misogyny

A friend of mine, a Reverend (yeah, one that has a church AND sheeple) posted this very hilarious meme-pic of Andrea Bocelli and some quote that he supposedly said that goes like this, “A young pregnant wife has been hospitalized for a simple attack of appendicitis. The doctors had to apply ice to her stomach and when the treatments ended the doctors suggested she abort the child, they told her it was the best solution because the baby would be born with some disability but the young brave wife decided not to abort, and the child was born. That woman was my Mother and I was the child.”

To which I responded with sarcasm and maybe a drop of wit… but mostly sarcasm… however, it was friendly sarcasm.

Then someone on this friends list jumped in with, “I believe in babies rights… I just do.”

He followed this inanity with “It is only a baby if the woman wants it to be, otherwise it is nothing more than a dispensible inconvenience.”

To which I responded with, “Those are great opinions Dave, but unless you are a pregnant woman? They should remain NOTHING MORE than YOUR opinions.. they sure as HELL shouldn’t be laws controlling another humans body AGAINST THEIR WILL… a thinking, breathing, ACTUAL human…”

Now it’s important to state here that I use caps as a form of emote. I like to point out the pieces of my text that if I had said them in person, they would have been emoted or verbally highlighed… stated with some intensity due to my opinion and belief.

Well, Captain Baby Champion steps in with the following:

“What Brian, your statements are fact? I have a right to express my opinions, you certainly express yours. I have seen your CAPTIAL LETTER rants before, in fact, that is all I ever see you do, is rant. I will continue to exercise my right to express my opinions, on here or anywhere else I please; whether you like it or not. Abortion is wrong in most cases. Fetuses are often pulled out of wombs, living, crying, breathing and ACTUAL human beings. The only difference is that when an aborted child is yanked from the womb, it is usually in pieces and if it its little heart is still beating, all those parts are left piled up in the specimen pan until the heart stops.”

To which I am responding via a tumblr post… (it’s important to note here, I have this feeling that once this response is visible on the thread that the OP (my friend the Reverend) will remove either MY posts or the entire OT, which is why I am saving this discussion for posterity.)

Let’s take this guys post apart one piece at a time.

Passover

Happy ‘Angel of death passed by my family cause we killed a goat and smeared it’s blood on our door’ day! To all my Jewish friends…

There can’t be global warning because man does not have that much power over God’s creation. - Pat Robertson

This is why we are losing the war to save our planet. Religion is single-handedly destroying our intelligence, reasoning powers, rationality and logic. Because if we believe something enough then we can ignore reality until we die.

Religion needs to end.
